簡介：故事發生在19世紀末的巴黎，在燈紅酒綠的上流社會中，一位名為露易絲（達尼爾·達黎歐 Danielle Darrieux 飾）的貴婦顯得格外耀眼。露易絲的丈夫是一名極具威信的將軍，故事要從將軍送給露易絲的一副耳環說起。 為了償還賭債，露易絲將耳環低價賣給了一位珠寶商人，對丈 夫則謊稱耳環丟失。迫于將軍的名望，珠寶商人將事情的真相如實告知。將軍不聲不響的將耳環買了回來，轉手送給了相好許久的情婦勞拉（Lia Di Leo 飾）以討其歡心，可是沒過多久，這副耳環便輾轉來到了意大利外交官德納提（維托里奧·德·西卡 Vittorio De Sica 飾）的手中并最終物歸原主回到了露易絲的身邊。
